Ages 3+
Histoires à trous
Histoires à trous are interactive stories in which certain words are replaced by pictograms.
The adult reads along with their finger, and the child is invited to complete the sentences using the pictograms.
Each book features a specific sound that the child hears and reproduces throughout the reading.
Your child participates, speaks, and develops their language... without even realizing it!

How do Mad Libs work?
Histoires à trous are interactive books where certain words in the text are replaced by pictograms that the child must complete.
Each book targets a specific sound, which is found in all the words to be completed, whether at the beginning, middle, or end of the word.
The parent reads the story, following the text with their finger, and pauses when a pictogram appears, to prompt the child to say the corresponding word.
The method is based on:
- 10 targeted words (pictograms), repeated multiple times throughout the story
- a strong presence of the target sound throughout the text
- colored letters to highlight the connection between sounds and letters
At the end of each book, additional activities allow the child to practice the sound in other fun contexts.
What do Histoires à trous develop?
Histoires à trous are true tools for language development and fostering early literacy.
They help with:
- pronouncing the featured sound, thanks to targeted words and their repetition
- phonological awareness, thanks to the auditory bombardment of the sound
- print awareness, thanks to highlighted letters and finger-tracking the text
- narrative skills, thanks to the repetitive structure that allows for anticipation and storytelling
They concretely prepare children to learn to read, while strengthening their participation in reading.
Why do kids love them?
Children love Histoires à trous because they don't just listen: they actively participate in the reading process.
Thanks to the repetitive structure, they anticipate what's coming next and quickly gain confidence.
They particularly enjoy:
- completing the sentences themselves
- recognizing pictograms
- actively participating on each page
This allows them to develop a strong sense of:
- competence
- autonomy
- and even "reading like grown-ups"
Why do professionals love them?
Histoires à trous are true ready-to-use intervention tools.
They allow you to effectively work on several language objectives in a single activity.
They offer:
- precise targeting (1 book = 1 sound)
- a high number of repetitions (up to several dozen productions per reading)
- a motivating and structured activity
They are particularly appreciated because they:
- promote active participation, even among children who speak little
- adapt to different contexts (daycare, classroom, speech therapy)
- require no preparation time
- offer supplementary material to vary activities
The length of the stories is also adapted to the attention span of children aged 3 and over, which helps maintain their engagement from beginning to end.
